Glowing Waters

This a photo was taken in New Zealand. The mineral-rich water actually glows. These small bodies of water are referred to as the "Emerald Lakes", which exist amidst the volcanic grounds. These can be found on Mount Tongariro. Apparently this was Mordor's "Mount Doom" in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The top photo reminded me of an experience that I had. This photo is of the "Grotta Azzurra", which in English simply means "Blue Cove". I was told that one of the James Bond movies was filmed here. When I visited Capri, Italy, I actually swam in this cave. The locals that I followed in said that there is a bacteria that lives in the water within the cave that causes it to glow. This picture hardly does it justice. The cave is pitch black inside aside from the hole in which you enter. The water is the most florescent, vibrant, neon blue, that you have ever seen. I had to enter by grabbing a chain, lifting my legs, and shimmying my way into the hole. I remember being surrounded by jellyfish, they were incredibly gorgeous and graceful. The man that was acting as my guide promised they wouldn't hurt me if I simply kept pushing the water away from me. Unfortunately, I was not able to take my camera with me inside the cave, but I am pretty sure that the image of it will remain ingrained in my head for quite some time. I remember thinking that this wasn't the brightest idea, being that I was surrounded by jellyfish, had no idea where the hospital was, and was completely trusting a stranger to keep me safe. Turned out to be one of the best, awe-striking experiences of my life.
